Weekly Inspiration: Spring Colours and Jelly Brains!

Hello! This is a weekly feature where I share my photos with you. I carry my camera everywhere, and I’m always taking pictures of things that excite me. Prepare to see lots of colours, patterns and good times through my lens!

Last week was oh so colourful! For a brief moment I convinced myself that spring had arrived.

Helena-Maratheftis-weekinthelife209-16Helena-Maratheftis-weekincolour19-08Isn’t this mask beautiful? I love the colour scheme and those crazy yellow eyes.

Helena-Maratheftis-weekincolour19-07I dug out my old headphones last week, and realised that they’re the exact same colour as my new phone case. Ha!Helena-Maratheftis-weekincolour19-16As soon as the sun came out I ran to the flower nursery. Sadly, I was too indecisive to buy any plants.

Weekly Inspiration: Markets and Museums.

Hello! This is a weekly feature where I share my photos with you. I carry my camera everywhere, and I’m always taking pictures of things that inspire me. Prepare to see lots of colours, patterns and good times through my lens!

This is meant to be a weekly feature but I’ve been oh so busy over the last…er…month. To apologise, I’m giving you a mega-mashup of my favourite photos from February. They include a couple of market trips (to East London and Camden Passage) and some colourful ones taken at home. Also, because I’m feeling extra-generous, there’s a bonus video at the end. Oh yes. Enjoy!

Helena-Maratheftis-weekincolour18-05For the record, I don’t think the East End sucks. I love it. I spent a freeeezing Sunday walking around Brick Lane and Spitalfields Market, snapping at street art and old-school bric-a-brac.

So, this week I’ve been eating. A lot. Whenever my parents are in town, this is what happens. Today’s pictures are a foodie rainbow: home-cooked food, as well as treats from Portobello Road market, The Brass Rail in Selfridges, and high tea at The Orangery. Enjoy!

This has been a busy week. My parents came to visit me, I wrapped up work on my latest project, and…it snowed. A lot.

Hello! This is a weekly feature where I share my photos with you. I carry my camera everywhere, and I’m always taking pictures of things that inspire me. Prepare to see lots of colours, patterns and good times through my lens!

This has been the sort of week where I’ve been doing a million things: Drawing, photographing, cleaning, baking, (eating), partying. It’s been manic, and it looks set to stay that way for another few weeks. Argh!

Helena-Maratheftis-weekincolour15-03Hand washing clothes: My least favourite (but most colourful) chore.

Helena-Maratheftis-weekincolour15-02Hand decorated flower pot number two! I used bright yellow acrylic paint and drew the triangles with a silver marker.

Weekly Inspiration: Happy New Year!

Hello! This is a weekly feature where I share my photos with you. I carry my camera everywhere, and I’m always taking pictures of things that inspire me. Prepare to see lots of colours, patterns and good times through my lens!

Happy 2013, guys! What did you get up to on new year’s eve? We had a little party in our flat. I made a lot of cake, as usual. There were lots of bright and kitschy decorations…as usual. Have a look:

Helena-Maratheftis-weekincolour14-05Vasilopita is a traditional Greek new year’s eve cake. It’s usually a simple orange sponge cake, but I took it to new, technicolour heights. I’m not sure my mum would approve.

Helena-Maratheftis-weekincolour14-03Lemon cupcakes with blueberry frosting, inspired by this recipe.

Helena-Maratheftis-weekincolour14-01I got a lot of Turkish Delight chocolate for Christmas, so I baked a bar of it into chocolate brownies. I highly recommend it!

Helena-Maratheftis-weekincolour14-04Earl Grey scented cupcakes with clementine frosting. (The cake recipe is from here, but I made a simpler frosting: icing sugar, butter, and the juice and zest of 2 clementines.)

Helena-Maratheftis-weekincolour14-07The food table at our party. Yum, yum, yum, yum.

Helena-Maratheftis-weekincolour14-13Midnight! Every year, we welcome the new year by banging on pots and pans with wooden spoons (and potato mashers, tongs, and any other utensil we can find).

Helena-Maratheftis-weekincolour14-08Party poppers! We like to party like it’s 1993.

Helena-Maratheftis-weekincolour14-12A doorway-ful of streamers.

Helena-Maratheftis-weekincolour14-09We love a bit of neon.

Helena-Maratheftis-weekincolour14-02Some gorgeous, gorgeous wine packaging.

Helena-Maratheftis-weekincolour14-11The morning after was beautifully sunny…and totally messy.

Helena-Maratheftis-weekincolour14-10

May your 2013 be filled with cake, friends, sunshine and happiness.

‘Twas the week before Christmas, and London looked incredible. Behold:

Helena-Maratheftis-weekincolour13-04Decorating our flat! Every year, we bust out the kitschiest and most colourful decorations humanity has ever seen.

Helena-Maratheftis-weekincolour15Ta-da! I’m pretty proud of our massive pile of presents – it makes me feel like a proper adult.

Helena-Maratheftis-weekincolour13-07Speaking of decorating, I framed one of my calendars and hung it in our hallway. (Click here for my shop if you’d like one for your house!)

Helena-Maratheftis-weekincolour13-05My other calendar design! Again, it’s available for purchase (wink, wink).

As you may have noticed, I recently went AWOL for a few weeks. That’s because I was in Sydney, Australia! Here are a few of my favourite photos from the trip. Keep in mind that this is by no means a complete tourist’s guide! It’s just a set of my  most colourful shots!

Weekly Inspiration: Leaves, Flowers and Rainbows.

Hello! This is a weekly feature where I share my photos with you. I carry my camera everywhere, and I’m always taking pictures of things that inspire me. Prepare to see lots of colours, patterns and good times through my lens!

This has been a week of saturated, autumnal colour. November in London is pretty damn good looking.

I want to live on the stairwell at United Colours of Benetton, Oxford Circus.

A neon jugful of purple hyacinths. My house reeks of flowers, and I love it.

An autumnal rainbow on the footpath.

I love that the car matches the autumn leaves.

A Friday treat. (We ate toooo much.)

Zombie tulips at Spitalfields Market.

My kaleidoscopic friend.

Weekly Inspiration: Cushions, Kitchens and Ambiguously Coloured Squirrels.

Hello! This is a weekly feature where I share my photos with you. I carry my camera everywhere, and I’m always taking pictures of things that inspire me. Prepare to see lots of colours, patterns and good times through my lens!

This week I went dancing twice (oh yes), baked some butter-laden treats for my friends, played boardgames and painted plant pots. Oh, and I got some goodies in the mail…

First things first: My cushions arrived, and they’re nestling with Picasso! Click here to get yours.

I got a mini Kenwood Mixer kitchen timer from a friend! WIN.

Speaking of kitchens, I did some baking. I made peanut butter and sea salt brownies.

Lovely, sloppy, frosted brownies. My friends gobbled them up.

This week I decorated my cheap and nasty flowerpot. All you need is a gold, permanent marker.

Weekly Inspiration: Food, Flowers and Radiohead.

Hello! This is a weekly feature where I share my photos with you. I carry my camera everywhere, and I’m always taking pictures of things that inspire me. Prepare to see lots of colours, patterns and good times through my lens!

This has been a very good week. Last weekend I went to Columbia Road Flower Market with a good friend, where we ate steamed buns and perved on cupcakes. There was so much to see and photograph! Monday was also super good, because I went to see Radiohead (for the third time). I was Radiohead’s biggest fangirl in my teens, and I still love them.

Mosaics on Columbia Road.

An elaborate, lacy wire fence, seen in East London. Too beautiful.

Mountains and mountains of technicolour tulips.

Piles of salmon-stuffed bagels in a shop window. Oh, yummy.

Sunday sunlight and rows of very cool shops.

Hello! This is a weekly feature where I share my photos with you. I carry my camera everywhere, and I’m always taking pictures of things that inspire me. Prepare to see lots of colours, patterns and good times through my lens!

This week, London was rained on. A lot. However, I managed a trip to East London, and the Natural History Museum for Science Uncovered.

First up, here’s my face through a teleidoscope (which is not the same as a kaleidoscope).

The Natural History Museum is one of my favourite places in London. Ain’t it grand?

A coelocanth is a very large fish, and is often called a ‘living fossil’.

Weekly Inspiration: An epic round-up.

Hello! This is a weekly feature where I share my photos with you. I carry my camera everywhere, and I’m always taking pictures of things that inspire me. Prepare to see lots of colours, patterns and good times through my lens!

This is a special edition, because I moved house in late August and didn’t have proper internet access until this week. I therefore have a backlog of photos that I’m going to share today.  Enjoy!

Let’s start off with a giant Yayoi Kusama at Selfridges.

Fruit vendors on the street.

I saw this in East London. I really, really like it.

Now let’s skip to a glorious Saturday at Hampstead Heath. I love those pillowy clouds.

Lacy tree shadows.

Geometric stained glass. (Love it.)

Weekly Inspiration: Summer colours in my camera.

Hello! This is a weekly feature where I share my photos with you. I carry my camera everywhere, snapping pictures of things that inspire me. Prepare to see lots of colourful and heavily-patterned things through my lens!

London was very hot last weekend. Consequently, there are two photos of my feet in this batch. I hope that’s not a deal breaker! I like this batch of photos because of the nice balance between urban and natural shots.

A mid-week tea with pin-ups in Hoxton. As you do.

A shimmering Sunday in St. John’s Wood.

Nothing is more joyful than a rainbow of fruit.

…Speaking of fruit and colour, my friends have this gorgeous tree in their back yard.

And now for something more sharp and urban. (Yes, this was taken in the toilets.)

Hello! This is a weekly feature where I share my photos with you. I carry my camera everywhere, snapping pictures of things that inspire me. Prepare to see lots of colourful and heavily-patterned things through my lens!

I live in London, and the Olympics have been (delightfully) unavoidable for the past few weeks. Here are some Olympic-ish photos, peppered liberally with the usual dose of cake and colour.

Stripes of blue seats at the women’s basketball semi-finals.

Rainbow bottles forming horizontal stripes.

Dazzling lights on the basketball court.

Some equally dazzling pink lemonade bars.
